About the Role
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a senior legal professional to lead the Global Markets Legal team supporting the Equities division within a leading global financial services organisation. This role offers the chance to operate at the heart of a dynamic trading floor environment, partnering closely with front-office teams to manage legal risk, advise on complex transactions, and guide strategic product development across the firm’s Equities business.
Key Responsibilities

Act as Head of Global Markets Legal – Equities, reporting directly to the Head of Global Markets Legal.

Lead the legal risk management strategy for the Equities business, fostering strong relationships with senior business stakeholders.

Manage and develop a dedicated Equities lawyer (VP level).

Provide expert legal support on the structuring, negotiation, documentation, and execution of a broad range of equity products, including:

Equity derivatives (strategic and flow)

Cash and synthetic prime brokerage

Equity margin loans and fund finance (NAV) transactions

Partner with risk and control functions to ensure equity products remain within defined risk parameters.

Advise on the creation, structuring, and regulatory analysis of new products and business initiatives.

Interpret, communicate, and support the implementation of regulatory developments impacting the Equities business.

Provide legal and regulatory guidance to Business, Risk, and Compliance teams.

Support senior management in the broader leadership and strategic direction of the Global Markets Legal department.
Skills and Experience Required

Qualified lawyer with substantial post-qualification experience gained in a top-tier law firm or leading investment bank.

Demonstrable expertise in equity products, including derivatives, margin loans, and fund finance.

Deep familiarity with industry documentation such as ISDA and LMA, and a strong understanding of commercial negotiation dynamics.

Comprehensive knowledge of equity structure considerations, including cross-jurisdictional issues, security, finance, and insolvency law.

Strong drafting and analytical skills, with a keen awareness of current market standards and regulatory frameworks.

Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced trading environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.

Experience in managing junior lawyers or mentoring legal professionals.
