How Coaching, Culture & Collaboration Supported a Confident Career Relaunch
Khadija’s success story is a great example of how strong hiring partnerships and thoughtful onboarding can deliver long-term impact.
Khadija Ansari built her career in global market risk during one of the most volatile financial periods in recent history. Having joined a graduate programme at the height of the credit crisis, she quickly advanced to VP level, taking on complex analysis and reporting responsibilities across asset classes — from FX and rates to commodities. During a break from financial services to focus on family, she got involved with a homeware startup whilst working part-time in the education sector adding new dimensions to her skillset. When she was ready to re-enter the industry, she joined The Return Hub to help her search. With strong credentials and clear ambition, she was looking for more than just a role — she was looking for the right environment to thrive.
Working with our specialist consultants, Khadija was introduced to several opportunities at leading investment banks including a role in Market Risk at Nomura. Following a multi-stage interview process, she was offered the position and joined a small but growing team. Feedback from her hiring manager was excellent from day one.
Recognising her potential, her hiring managers worked with The Return Hub to arrange specialist executive coaching as part of Khadija’s longer term onboarding plan. These sessions became a key part of her transition — giving her space to reflect, plan, and step back into leadership with clarity and confidence.
“It was the realisation that I didn’t lose my skills just because I’ve taken a break — I just needed the right space and support to thrive. It’s about finding the environment that lets you be both present at home and fulfilled at work” – Khadjia
Since joining in 2022, Khadija has taken on increased responsibility — now managing a growing team, collaborating across borders, and working closely with global leadership. She’s seen her efforts acknowledged through ongoing growth and her Manager is actively supporting her career promotion and development — a clear signal of her contribution and potential.
What made it work?
- A Culture that Backs its People
The driving factor in Khadijas decision to return to financial services was learning about the company’s genuine commitment to flexibility and wellbeing — something she says has been clear from day one.
“Since joining, I’ve experienced this support first-hand,” she says. “The company’s approach to work-life balance isn’t just policy — it’s embedded in the culture.”
- Support at Every Level
Khadija highlights the importance of having a strong support network — at home and at work — and the trust to manage expectations openly. That trust has enabled her to thrive professionally while managing a busy home life.
“Trust and open communication are key. That’s what allows me to thrive in both environments.” Her leadership style reflects this too: realistic, empathetic, and grounded in smart prioritisation.
“As a mother of four, being organised and efficient with time is crucial — but I also learnt that asking for help is not a weakness. Delegating and outsourcing where needed helps you show up stronger where it matters most.”
- Managers Who Invested Early
From structured onboarding to arranging coaching, Khadija’s hiring managers at Nomura played a critical role in creating the right environment and culture and for setting her up for success. That support gave her the confidence to step into the role with clarity and direction — a move that’s paid off in performance and long-term potential.
“Our job as leaders is to focus on outcomes, not hours. Flexibility allows people to bring their full selves to work — and when they can do that, the whole team & organisation benefits.”
“Khadija has been brilliant from day 1 — calm, capable, strategic, and highly effective. She’s earned trust quickly and is adding significant value to a global team. I have no doubt that, with the right support, she will continue to grow in the organisation” – – James Wadley, Head of EMEA Market Risk & Global Head of Rates Market Risk at Nomura
- A Recruitment Partner Who Stayed Involved
This wasn’t just a placement — it was a partnership. The recruitment firm supported her over time, presented multiple opportunities, and remained a constant through her return, growth, and transition.
“Placing Khadija at Nomura proved to be a great success for everyone involved. We strategically introduced her profile to Nomura identifying the relevant skills and transferable experience she could bring. Her Hiring Managers saw the opportunity and our partnership was key to the success of the placement. Khadija has gone from strength to strength in her new role being supported and encouraged along the way. We are really proud of what has achieved and are delighted to continue to follow her successful career journey at Nomura.” – Claire Douglas, Managing Consultant and placing consultant at The Return Hub
